Sarah, a Utah native, is the creative director at Barebones, a local outdoor goods brand and B Corporation. Starting her design exploration and education in fashion, her focus was men’s clothing and accessories for brands such as Unionbay in Seattle and skate brand DC Shoes in Carlsbad, California. Creating repeat patterns and designing graphic prints in apparel design is where she discovered her love of the graphic arts. So at the age of 36, a single mother of a 5 year old, she quit fashion, moved back in with her parents, and pursued a BFA in graphic design at Oregon State University where she graduated at the top of her class. Her first job after returning to Utah, was a lead designer position for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Recommended by a friend, Sarah then applied for and landed a designer position for a little-known new company called Barebones. There she has grown and flourished alongside the brand, and now oversees a team of designers and assists with product development.

Jorrien is one half of the husband + wife design studio, Fell, whose mission is to connect people with nature through design. Jorrien received a BFA in graphic design at Utah State University. While studying abroad in Switzerland and later in Scandinavia, his interest in the connection between design and nature was sparked. Jorrien has worked with clients such as Zion Forever Project, Grand Canyon Conservancy, Snowbird, and Visit Utah. His work has been recognized in the Communication Arts Illustration Annual, the World Illustration Awards, Logo Lounge, and he received a Copper Ingot award in the SLC AIGA 100 Show. Jorrien spends his free time outside with his family.

We are pleased to present Utah Architect and Designer Robert L. Bliss (1921-2018) wide array of furniture design from their home estate, focusing on the 'making of' and showcasing a process driven approach to award winning design. This exhibition - the first dedicated exclusively to his furniture process —provides an intimate view of Bliss's work in early conception and final assembly, including more than 50 studies from the artist's collection, created between the 1940s and the 2000s, including the Smithsonian's Deep Cradle Rocker.

This exhibit will include gestural sketches and detailed drawings made during early concepts, never-before seen models and fragments of built work, and a large range of publications showing the reach and influence Bliss's furniture had on interiors and exhibitions across the globe. Together they demonstrate Bliss's unceasing commitment to material exploration and kinetic-activity of the built object, as co-creators and innovators.

This exhibit is focused on documenting the collection of Robert L. Bliss-created objects that are unsurpassed in both scope and depth. This collection is composed of pieces from all periods of Bliss's life, although this exhibition focuses primarily on his furniture works created in the 1950's and later. It includes tables, chairs, lounges, wire sculptures, and other objects, as well as sketches, works on paper, toys, and domestic objects.

The Bliss Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by Robert and Anna C. Bliss, is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, preserving, and documenting the art and archives of Robert L. and Anna C. Bliss, and continuing their dedication to the education and exhibition of art, architecture, and design throughout the Salt Lake City community and beyond.

The exhibition will take place at the Bliss Foundation, at 380 West 400 North, Salt Lake City, UT 84103 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm on Friday, October 27th as part of the Salt Lake Design Week, with thanks to generous support from Modern Out West
